How Calyve started.
We're Albertina and Elias — the couple behind Calyve.
Neither of us cooks with one hand. But people we love do. And for years, we watched them work around kitchen tools that felt more clinical than culinary. Tools designed by people who never had to use them with one hand.
So in June 2025, we started asking questions.
We spent nearly a year listening. 15 honest conversations with people who cook one-handed every day — after a stroke, with arthritis, with a limb difference, while holding a baby, after surgery. They told us things designers never bothered to ask:
"The other boards feel like they were tested with two hands."
"I have tremor — being close to exposed blades terrifies me."
"I don't want to feel like I need help in my own kitchen. I want to feel useful again."
That last one stayed with us.
We built 6 prototypes. We brought each one back to the people who'd helped us start. We changed what didn't work. We kept what did.
Calyve isn't a medical device. It's a premium kitchen tool — built by listening, not by guessing. Every detail exists because someone who cooks with one hand told us it had to.
You're not someone who needs adapting. You're a cook with one hand free. Your kitchen should know it.

Our mission
We believe people are more capable than the products built for them give them credit for.
Calyve exists to return independence and dignity to anyone who cooks with one hand. Adapting to one-handed cooking shouldn't mean lowering your standards. It means finding a tool built around you — not for someone else.
How we built Calyve
June 2025 — We started listening.
15 people told us their daily kitchen reality.
6 prototypes — each one tested with the same community that helped us start.
1 final product — shaped by the people it was built for.
